Enjoy …because we all are nuts !!!

What do we really mean by saying ‘it’s systematic’ or ‘organized’? It simply means that everything is controlled, are just the way they are supposed to be. Well, yes, it is good to be disciplined and orderly, but not always. It could be boring also. A twist in the pitch of music does touch your heart’s chords; a sudden smash by a player in a tennis match adds the excitement to the moment, an unexpected naughty wink by your niece amidst a tensed discussion in the family does make you giggles from within. So now we all can agree that the concept of something different is not all that bad.

Change is inevitable. And now that things have to change let them be some big changes. Accepted, its easy to write about accepting changes. So while changes are taking place (big or small); like your weight and age or choice of movies and favourite song, lets discuss something different.

“If your hobby becomes your job then your salary becomes your fringe benefit.”

I guess it was in one of my economic books from graduation where I had read it and it sure is true. It would be great if our hobby becomes our profession. Imagine all the passion and love for what you are doing pays you for your tea and sandwich and a new wrist watch too 😉 . For few of us this is partly or wholly true and for the rest of us, well we like to have a professional life and a separate personal one too and there is nothing wrong about it. It is like, I work and earn and then come back home to pursue my hobbies at home where I relax and rejuvenate.

And I believe that prospective career does include opening hobby classes for children and reading story books with them (a lot needs to be taken care of and be concerned about in such jobs…pheww). Yes, it is important that some people work in banks or have a manufacturing business because that’s what is going to pay your bill in the hotel we go for dinner. Similarly, it is also important to have new music bands that you can listen to while you drive back home from office.

That new house you built from your savings, how about a nice art work on the dining wall by your dear one or a patch of mud on a wall by the footballer of your family. Yes, that mud will make you mad for a while but will also add a nice moment in your story of life. So the idea I am trying to get here is … don’t let her dream of being a dancer when she grows up be a dream. Encourage her to make it her reality. So do not shun her. Let her try. let the path be difficult. Let her decide if not a dancer then what. Do give her your advice, make suggestions, stop her if that’s essential. But let the final word be hers so that when things go right or wrong it is her all along who chose it that way.

So go back. Check what board games you have. Find the missing shoe lace. Stick that poster of your favourite hero on the wall. Keep a pack of teddy bear shaped jellies near your pillow. Play songs on the speaker. Buy a guitar, scream, giggle, wink, live. It’s ok to lose your calm once in a while, get too busy, not get to sleep enough as long as the tough times encourage you to plan a backpack trip to Leh Ladakh or South America or to colour your hair green (…the last one is valid only for one weekend, okay!).

Getting back on the point of giggling. I think smiles are over-rated, it’s the giggles that matter more. Now that I think of it there are so many types of giggles. The chirpy ones like small kids, the scary ones like that guy sitting somewhere at your work place, that weird funny one like your best friend and that honest sweet one like your first crush. You have enjoyed all of them, right?

And I do wish that someday I get to work at a card manufacturing company, where I can spend hours writing messages for a variety of reasons. Or paint classrooms for kids in a kindergarten school or decorate my house with origami art. For now I am happy with how life is. And you know what?
